Morning sightseeing depends on storing the bags first. If bags or flights delay you, shorten the Roman Agora and Plaka loop; keep the 4:00 PM check-in and rest break.
7:35 AM
Sarah and Cullen arrive at ATH
Delta DL 0240 from Boston.
8:10 AM
Michael arrives at ATH
United UA 124 from Newark.
8:55 AM
Hannah and Ryan arrive at ATH
Turkish Airlines via Istanbul.
9:45–11:15 AM
Meet up, travel into Athens, and store bags
Allow time for passport control and baggage after the final 8:55 AM arrival. Take airport Metro Line 3 to Monastiraki, then walk roughly 5–10 minutes to Athinas 36. Budget 60–90 minutes for the station, waiting, ride, and walk. Ask Aris about bag drop; if unavailable, arrange staffed luggage storage before sightseeing. Early access is not confirmed.
Start near the Airbnb on Athinas Street. Browse the food stalls and pick up a snack or fresh orange juice. This is the central food market, separate from the Monastiraki flea-market shops. Times today can slide if airport arrival runs late.
Walk about 10 minutes into Psirri for the decorated café at 17 Karaiskaki. Have a freddo coffee or share a treat, then walk about 5 minutes to Monastiraki Square and the flea-market lanes.
Walk about 10 minutes from Monastiraki. Allow 45 minutes for the smaller Roman site and Tower of the Winds. Check its own admission details; do not assume an Acropolis ticket covers it. If the group is tired, keep this as a brief outside look and take a longer lunch.
Walk roughly 10–15 minutes uphill into the little whitewashed lanes below the Acropolis. Wander quietly, look for cats, and respect the homes. Continue down through Plaka for lunch.
Apartment in the center of Athens 1B. Stay through April 28. This is the booked check-in time; keep it fixed.
4:00–5:30 PM
Shower, unpack, and rest
A proper break after the overnight flights. If jet lag wins, skip the hill and head straight to dinner.
5:30–7:00 PM
Philopappou Hill, Pnyx, and the Socrates prison area
Walk about 30–35 minutes to the hill paths, then allow another 45–60 minutes to explore. Link the Pnyx viewpoints, the traditional Prison of Socrates stop, and the Philopappou Monument as energy allows. This is the afternoon Acropolis-view walk; tomorrow has the sunset stop. Wear grippy shoes and return along the main paths before dark.
Walk back toward Monastiraki / Psirri, allowing 25–35 minutes from the hill paths. Order plates to share; try loukoumades if you still want something sweet. A Monastiraki rooftop is an optional drink for the view, then an early night.

Athens plan · activities not booked
Route: Acropolis → Ancient Agora / Monastiraki → Plaka → stadium → National Garden → Syntagma → Kolonaki → Lycabettus.
A full walking day, with a one-hour lunch and a longer Kolonaki break. All activity times are targets, not reservations. Acropolis entry, other admission, funicular tickets, and any meals still need arranging.
6:45–7:15 AM
Breakfast and walk to the Acropolis
Have coffee and a light breakfast, then leave Athinas 36 by about 7:15. Allow 25–35 minutes to the Acropolis entrance, plus time to find your ticketed entry gate. Bring water, sunscreen, and shoes that grip smooth stone.
Acropolis, Parthenon, and the south-slope theatres
Aim for an 8:00 AM entry when April 2027 tickets open. Allow about 2½ hours for the climb, Parthenon, and Theatre of Dionysus on the slopes, following the permitted route. Herodes Atticus is unavailable for restoration in 2027; take an outside view only where access allows. No theatre performance or interior entry is assumed.
Allow 15–20 minutes to walk from the west-side Acropolis exit toward the Agora entrance. See the Temple of Hephaestus and Stoa of Attalos, with time for a water / restroom stop. This is the larger Greek Agora, separate from yesterday’s Roman Agora.
Sit down and share a few dishes before the afternoon walk. If needed, use the nearby Airbnb for a short break; keep extra time for the stadium transfer.
Allow 35–45 minutes across the centre toward the Panathenaic Stadium. If feet are tired, take a taxi instead and use the saved time for a longer break.
Explore the marble stadium of the first modern Olympic Games, the track, and the included museum. Current spring hours cover this afternoon slot; recheck for the trip. Bring small coins for the paid toilets.
Walk about 10–15 minutes to the garden via the Zappeion side. Take a shaded stroll north toward Parliament; this puts you close to the next stop without doubling back.
Walk about 15–20 minutes northeast into Kolonaki. Sit down, recharge, and eat before the sunset outing. This is the long break in the day; shorten the garden or stadium if the morning runs late.
From Kolonaki, allow 15–25 minutes to the funicular base at Aristippou / Ploutarchou, plus a queue and ride. Take the funicular to save your legs, or allow about 30–45 minutes for the steep climb. Be at the viewpoint well before sunset; check the actual sunset time and last return ride nearer the trip. Leave time to get back down after the view.
A taxi is the easiest tired-legs option. Alternatively, walk down to Evangelismos and take Metro Line 3 to Monastiraki, then walk to Athinas 36. Buy the appropriate local ticket.
Based on Hannah’s notes. Visitor information checked October 5, 2026; recheck hours and tickets for April 2027 before booking. Walking times are planning estimates with room for stops.
Tickets: Reserve the Acropolis entry slot separately. Check each site’s own admission rather than assuming a combined pass. The notes’ €30 Acropolis and €20 Ancient Agora match current full-price listings; these are not guaranteed 2027 prices. Official Acropolis info · Official Ancient Agora info
Both theatres: Include the Theatre of Dionysus in the Acropolis / slopes route. Herodes Atticus is unavailable during restoration for the 2027 festival; outside views depend on access. 2027 restoration notice
Markets: Varvakios is the food market near the Airbnb. Monastiraki is the flea-market / shopping area. The Kallidromiou farmers’ market in Hannah’s notes is a Saturday outing, so it does not fit these Monday–Wednesday Athens dates.
Food to look for: Freddo coffee, fresh orange juice, loukoumades, and Greek dishes shared family-style. Little Kook is the decorated café stop. Use a Monastiraki rooftop for a drink and the view; dinner can be at a taverna. Ask about an ouzo rather than assuming it is complimentary.
Getting around: Walk the nearby centre stops. Airport Metro Line 3 goes to Monastiraki; airport travel needs the appropriate airport ticket. Recheck fares and timetables before the trip. With five people and bags, confirm vehicle capacity before choosing a taxi / transfer. Official airport metro info
In the day bag: Water, grippy walking shoes, sunscreen, tissues / toilet paper, and small coins for toilets. Follow local signs about using the bin for toilet paper. Keep phones and wallets secure on busy metro trains and around the squares.
